Sky Lake carries a wide variety of printing substrates, including fine art papers, canvases, and vinyls. We maintain a collection of samples for your review in the studio. Each sample uses a standardized test pattern for you to best gauge how the material will meet your needs. Below is a selection of some of the more popular substrates that we stock.

fine art papers

Hahnemühle Photo Rag

White, 100% cotton rag, age resistant, printable on one side. The smooth semi-matte surface of Photo Rag can be used for many different applications. This quality substrate's gently textured surface is especially ideal for photographs and images featuring small or intricate details.

Hahnemühle William Turner

Natural white, 100% rag, age resistant, printable on one side, fine toothy surface. The materials und structure of this quality correspond exactly to what artists have come to expect from Hahnemule's traditional artistës paper with regard to appearance and feel.

Hahnemühle German Etching

Natural white, 100% TCF pulp, age resistant, printable on one side, matte surface. This 310 gsm heavy-weight substrate features a velvety, almost linen-like surface and has an attractive warm white shade. This paper is ideal for reproductions of lithographs, watercolors, and pastels.

Hahnemühle Torchon

White, 100 % TCF pulp, age resistant, printable on one side, with coarse parchment-like surface. The original beauty and three dimensionality of a print can be captured with this bright white paper. This rigid stock works very well for enhancing the look of large prints.

Epson Ultrasmooth

Natural white finish. This paper offers you an acid free,100% cotton hot press paper. This cylinder mould-made product features an ultra smooth finish, optimized for Epson UltraChrome archival inks. This fine art paper is not only acid, lignin, and chlorine free, it is also pH buffered with calcium carbonate for a true archival sheet. The finish a subtle warmth makes it an ideal choice for B&W photographic work.

Epson Enhanced Matte

Bright white stock. Its high color gamut yields remarkable color reproduction making it a good choice for photographers seeking a flat matte surface. This instant-drying, versatile, and affordable substrate offers an attractive solution to many graphics projects.

Epson Premium Luster

Traditionally used for wedding, portrait and school photographers photos. This instant drying paper produces vivid, lifelike images that rival those of traditional silver halide prints. Premium Luster Photo Paper delivers highly saturated prints by offering maximum ink coverage and a high D-Max for true photographic reproductions. Its 10-mil RC base gives prints a photographic feel, and keeps the paper cockle-free.

Sihl Artists' Canvas

A matte-finish, 20 mil double weave 30% cotton 70% polyester canvas. Water Resist Canvas has a special water resistant coating that enables smudge-free handling and finishing. For use wherever a museum-grade printable canvas is desired. The woven stretchable base makes this canvas ideal for framing.

Premier Art Canvas

This satin finish canvas is a double weave cotton/polyester blend that is instant drying and water- resistant. It is easily stretched and resists cracking, making it ideally suited for Fine Art, Photography, Glicee, and archival display prints. Recomended for indoor use only. Application of Premier Art Print Shield spray or Clearstar Corp's Clear Shield will increase the print's longevity as well as its water and light resistance.

Sihl Block Out Vinyl Scrim Banner

3960 is Sihl's highest tensile strength banner with a block-out layer to prevent shine through. This water resistant, opaque, light and flexible PVC banner is WeatherPro certified. 3960 consists of a tear resistant polyester fabric which is embedded between two white vinyl layers.

 

Printing cost is based on the material chosen and the square footage of the print. All our printing is done on roll stock so we can print any size up to 44" wide by 90" long. For detailed pricing, click here.

Our studio uses Epson 44" wide format printers. We currently run an Epson 9600 with Epson UltraChrome Ink. UltraChrome Ink can produce color prints with a color gamut approaching today's standard dye ink technologies. It also produces great looking black and white photography capable of satisfying demanding black and white photographers. The ink set features water and light resistance, as well as archival characteristics.
